Chair of the EU's Environment Committee calls for increased regulation on the exploitation of shale gas in order to combat negative environmental impacts.
The need for energy security and independence has focused attention on Europe's huge shale gas deposits but growing concerns over the controversial extraction process and the subsequent impact that this has on the environment are beginning to overshadow the benefits.
Jo Leinan MEP, Chair of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety of the European Parliament has called for a new European directive to rigor chevrolet ously regulate the production of fuels with adverse environmental impacts which could potentially lead to the banning of shale gas exploration.
