A New Sci-Fi Series Goes Outside The Box For Financing

PRLog (Press Release) - Aug 08, 2011 - In 2004, Mako Pictures released a short film called The Kiss.  Although the supernatural thriller was not widely released, it was a hit with viewers and gained a passionate cult following.  When the DVDs sold out, fans were frustrated by their inability to purchase the film.  Now, thanks to dodge an "outside the box" micro-transaction financing idea, The Kiss has once more become available.

Arloa auto part Reston, who has appeared on Desperate Housewives, Days of Our Lives, Ugly Betty and more, is one of the leads in The Kiss and is also one of the creators of the new Sci-Fi series, Awakening.  After Mako Pictures stopped producing DVDs of The Kiss, Arloa began getting Facebook inquiries asking where to find the film.  She saw an opportunity and approached Eric Dapkewicz, head of Mako Pictures, with the idea of offering up a download version of The Kiss to help fund Awakening.  Dapkewicz was extremely supportive of the venture and agreed, donating almost all of the proceeds to the financing of Awakening.  

"Now, instead of people blindly donating to a project they know very little about, they get something of value in return.  It's a win/win", Reston says.  Downloads of The Kiss went live on Friday at http://www.watchawakening.tv/e-store/ and sales are already exceeding expectations.  

The Kiss download is the second facet of a multipronged crowd-financing model developed by Hypnopompic Productions (the production company behind Awakening).  The first component sought to raise funds through tax deductible donations via Fractured Atlas on IndiGogo, and they will soon be launching a third, undisclosed as of yet, component.

Although still in the midst of fundraising, Hypnopompic Productions has set the stage for Awakening and filming has begun on the series portion of the project. The show incorporates social media as an integral comp bmw onent, allowing the audience to be involved in the show in a way that cannot exist on regular television.  The main character has already been established as an existing entity, her blog, Facebook and Twitter accounts have been launched, and these sites will soon lead their followers down a bizarre path as the video blog posts take a turn for the bizarre and into the sci-fi realm.

Assuming the necessary funds are raised to complete Hypnopompic's vision for the pilot by the end of August, the transition from the blog into the series sho chrysler uld begin this fall.
